The MAC / Rodarte saga - UPDATE

MAC have just announced they are to pull the entire Rodarte and MAC collaboration off the shelves!
The announcement comes a few weeks after they were forced to apologize following their naming a nail varnish after a town in Mexico famous for the murder and rape of young girls. MAC and Rodarte both released separate statements to the press concerning the uproar over the nail varnishes. Pledging to donate 100% of the proceeds to the families of the murder victims.
However, they have now decided to shelve the project after complaints concerning the advertising campaign have also been causing problems.
It's a huge decision. Made even more interesting in that a blogger was the first to report on the issue. The story was then carried around the world via blogs. I have yet to see ONE publication carrying the news about the MAC/Rodarte error.
Reading between the lines though? How much money is this little 'error' going to cost them? has anyone lost a job over this? What happens to all the pots of glitter which are going to sit in a warehouse now?

The press statements are available on the blog for you to read under our July blog posts section. Just scroll down - they are there! It's interesting to see how much damage control was needed after one tiny mistake. How the wrong decision can cost a brand millions.

But what do you think readers?

Were MAC wrong to name their nail varnish after the town ?
Has this changed your opinion of MAC?
Would you buy the collection?
Have a look at the advertising campaign above, what do you think?
