New women's clothing boutique opens in downtown Moorhead - INFORUM

Posted: 08 Nov 2019 05:12 AM PST

Erica Hilde opened Absolute Style Boutique Tuesday, Nov. 5, in a building also home to several other businesses at 901 Center Ave.

Hilde has been interested in fashion since she sold shoes at Herberger's while still in high school. She went on to earn a degree in apparel and textiles at North Dakota State University.

When her husband, Spencer Hilde, secured a job in Minot, N.D., she went back to school to earn a master's degree in business administration from Minot State University.

Minot was also where Hilde first started selling clothing.

She purchases the inventory and then places it in stores like The Foundry in Minot.

"I supply all the clothing for that store. It's my clothing. I own it until it sells," Hilde said.

She said the owner of The Foundry specializes in home decor and crafts, but "doesn't do clothing," so she asked Hilde if she would be interested in selling a collection there.

It's an arrangement Hilde has with the owners of Stella's in Bismarck, N.D., and Hair With Care locations at New Perspective Senior Living, 645 33rd Ave. E., and Eventide Sheyenne Crossings, 225 13th Ave. W., both West Fargo.

Hilde said she tailors the collections to the clientele of each location.

"Each location has a little bit different selection. The stuff in Minot is a little bit more trendy and a little of everything. The store in Bismarck has a lot more homey types of items. A lot of shawls and things," she said. "At Eventide and New Perspective, it's a lot of cardigans and easy-to-wear clothing."

Hilde said she also does a lot of business online at absolutestyleboutique.com. The Moorhead store will serve as home base for her business. It's where all of her merchandise will be shipped before being distributed to other stores or online customers.

In Moorhead, she carries women's clothing and accessories in sizes small to 3X for women of all ages.

"We carry everything from shirts to sweaters to accessories. I carry everything you need to put an outfit together whether you're 20 years old or 60," she said.

Jean Jacobsen of Dilworth popped in to do some shopping Thursday afternoon, Nov. 7. Jacobsen gets her hair done next door at Ciao Bella Salon, but she first heard about the store from her friend, Spencer Hilde's grandmother.

"It's beautiful here. They are such unique pieces," Jacobsen said. "I purchased a top when she had some things (for sale) at Holland's that I wore to my granddaughter's wedding reception. I had so many compliments on it."

Hilde said she's testing out store hours. The boutique is currently open from noon to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; noon to 4 p.m. Fridays; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.

7 best clothing subscription boxes for 2019: Men's, women's, plus size and more - CNET

You might choose to subscribe to a clothing box service for a number of reasons: to spice up your closet, to avoid trying on clothes at the store, to keep from getting burned out by the brick-and-mortar retail experience or just because the ads look cool.

But choosing the right clothing subscription box might feel overwhelming. A quick Google search returns dozens of subscriptions to pick from -- many of which you may not've heard of. Though the services ultimately work the same way, each one has its own unique features.

Deciding on a particular service comes down to your needs, style and budget. The most important thing to know about any of these services is that a stylist can't read your mind. The more information you can provide about what you like (and don't), the better your experience will be.

We tried several clothing subscription boxes. Here're the ones we liked best for 2019.

Best overall women's clothing subscription box experience

Stitch Fix

Shelby Brown/CNET

As a Stitch Fix subscriber, I can report a positive experience. I'm always excited when I get a box, which you can customize to come at whichever frequency fits your schedule and budget. My account is linked to one of my Pinterest boards, so my stylist can get more ideas of what I like, and she always leaves a thoughtful note in my box, which is a nice personalized touch. The Style Cards that come with each box also show different ways to pair the pieces (and often with basic items that're probably already in your closet). My advice, though, is not to shell out cash on an item unless you're sure you're going to wear it often enough.

Sign up online or in the app (available on iOS or Android). Fill out a detailed style profile, including your sizes, whether you detest or love shopping, if you wear heels, what parts of your body you like to show off, and more. Stitch Fix offers styled boxes for men, women and kids, and lets you set a preferred price point between $25 and $500 per item (kids items start at $10 per item). I picked the lowest price bracket when I signed up, and in my last box, none of my individual items were over $60. You pay a $20 styling fee when your box is assembled, you get three days to try on the clothes, and you can return anything you don't want or like. The $20 fee applies to whatever you keep, and if you don't keep anything, you pay only that fee. If you love your box and keep everything, you also get a 25% Buy All discount.

Best plus size clothing subscription box

Dia & Co.

Shelby Brown/CNET

Even though the average US woman's clothing size is between a Misses 16-18, many stores still cater to smaller sizes. This can make for an uncomfortable and discouraging shopping experience.

But Dia & Co.'s style service defies the often limited and drab choices that make up extended sizes. The service offers sizes 14-32. My box was packed with vibrant, colorful items -- blouses, dresses, skirts, jeans, even a clutch. I always have trouble finding jeans that fit my waist and hips, and Dia nailed that. The box also mixed classic pieces, like a polka-dot blue wrap dress, with more colorful, patterned pieces that stepped outside my comfort zone.

To use Dia & Co., you first take a style quiz that asks about your sizes, how clothes typically fit you, your style preferences and your preferred price range for items like tops, pants and dresses. You pay a $20 styling fee to have your box assembled. When the box arrives, you can buy what you like and return what you don't. The $20 fee applies at checkout to whatever you keep. You can order style boxes to best fit your schedule -- a monthly, bimonthly or a customized frequency -- as long as you try on and return clothes within five days. If you love your box and keep everything, you also get a 25% Buy All discount. There's also a boutique, if you're not quite ready to try a whole box.

Best clothing box with no monthly commitment

Golden Tote

Shelby Brown/ CNET

If you're new to clothing boxes, Golden Tote might be a good way to see if you like the process. The first Monday of every month at 9 a.m. PT, new items are available for the box of your choosing, which doesn't require a subscription. The Golden Tote ($149) includes five pieces: two that you pick out and three surprise items a stylist chooses. The Mini Tote ($59) includes two pieces: one item from you and one from the stylist. The Surprise Tote ($89) includes three items chosen by a stylist based on your style profile. Again, there's no subscription required for any Tote, and even if you don't want to buy a Tote, you can still shop the boutique for single items instead.

I was wary at first about the sizes, which were available only from XS to L. But with my Golden Tote, it was nice to be able to choose at least some of the pieces that would be sent to me, and when my Tote came in the mail, I was pleasantly surprised by the contents. My advice is to check out the new items as soon as possible, because sizes might wind up out of stock. The clothes selected by the stylist matched my style but also stepped outside my comfort zone just enough. The pieces are versatile and can be worn at work, with friends or at home, and even for a date night.

Best clothing rental subscription box for everyday clothes

Mr. + Ms. Collection

Shelby Brown/CNET

My husband and I both tried out the Mr. + Ms. Collection, a rental styling subscription service. It was a little intimidating at first because the site asked for our inseam lengths, dress shirts were sized numerically, and there was overall more fashion terminology involved, which was a little unfamiliar to us. The detailed process was worth it, though. When we got the packs, my husband was thrilled with how his jeans fit, and that the shirts could be worn at work or at home. The items in my pack lined up with my style perfectly, worked together as an outfit and could easily pair with other pieces in my closet.

You can subscribe to either the Mr. Collection or the Ms. Collection. The service works a little differently than many of the others. First, you sign up, pick a membership package and fill out your style profile. Once you get the box in the mail, you can hang onto the clothes for as long as you like, and then return them. If you really like something, you can buy it for up to 50% off. After you return your rentals, the service ships out your next pack, and your membership renews monthly.

The Mr. + Mrs. Collection has four membership plans, which vary by price, number of items, and shipping speed. The standard once-a-month box that includes three items costs $59 a month. The premium once-a-month box includes four items and costs $69 a month. A standard unlimited box includes three items and unlimited boxes each month for $79 a month, and a premium unlimited box includes four items and unlimited boxes each month for $89 a month.

Best affordable clothing subscription box for men

Menlo Club

Shelby Brown/CNET

A Menlo Club subscription box combines multiple aspects of menswear: clothes, shoes and athleisure. As with many other boxes, you first take a style quiz, and then you get two clothing items per month in the mail. The Menlo clothes are casual enough to wear on their own if you're a more subtle dresser, but the more items you acquire, the more you can put together new outfits and step outside of your fashion comfort zone. In addition, the Menlo store, which anyone can shop from without an account, often has good sales on designer brands -- like $58 pants for $10. If you're a member, you also get 25% off in the store.

My husband's Menlo Club package consisted of dark-wash jeans and a white long-sleeve henley. His style is very laid-back, so those items would fit easily into his closet. The jeans would be easy to dress up or wear casually. Since he usually wears dark colors, the white was a nice change.

A service membership to Menlo costs $60 per month, and it's easy to cancel (or skip a month) if you find out that it's not for you -- just make sure to do it before you're charged that month. Menlo doesn't offer returns on packages, but you can swap items if something doesn't fit. You can also subscribe to a seasonal membership, where a package is delivered every three months for $75.

Best outfit in a box

Stylogic

Shelby Brown/CNET

Stylogic is a clothing subscription service that offers women's sizes 12-36. What I liked most about it was how fast the service picked up on my style based only on my style profile. I also liked that each box provides a full outfit, while other services tend to include pieces that may or may not go together. Stylogic included a skirt, a cardigan, a top, a pair of shoes and a bracelet. The outfit matched my style and was still a little adventurous.

A Stylogic box includes five items, and you get seven days to try them on. There is a $20 styling fee that applies to whatever you keep, and if you don't keep anything, you pay only that fee. If you love your box and keep everything, you get a 20% discount.

Best men's clothing subscription box

Trendy Butler

Shelby Brown/CNET

Each package from Trendy Butler includes at least two clothing items from brands like Eleven Paris, Civil Society, Zanerobe, WeSC and Superdry that're meant to build out your wardrobe., My husband's sample package included three items: a gray long-sleeve shirt, a dark blue button-down and a pair of dark blue slacks. The items were able to work together and could integrate easily into his closet, without stepping too far outside his comfort zone.

The packages cost $65 per month with no styling fee -- you get to keep everything. The credit card on your account is charged the day you place your order and the same day the following month. Trendy Butler also has an online shop where you can buy specific pieces with your account.

If something doesn't work in your box, Trendy Butler offers returns (not refunds) and exchanges for members through its support email. You must have received the items in the last 60 days, explain why the items don't work so Trendy Butler can improve your profile, and have the clothes in "unworn condition" with the tags still on. If the items meet these criteria, you'll be sent a prepaid return label.

Dovetail Workwear review: Women's clothing like never before - AGDAILY

Posted: 08 Nov 2019 06:41 AM PST

When women go to buy workwear, we are generally limited in our options. Too often, we often find cheap options that won't last or we have to fall back on workwear built for men that won't fit our bodies correctly.

Seeing a gap in the market, three women founded Dovetail Workwear and decided to create their own options. Dovetail developed its products, brand, and mission collaboratively with female field testers around the country — women who work in some of the toughest industries around. The results (which are god-sends for rural and hard-working women everywhere) are clothes made of heavy-duty fabric that fit a woman's body — without compromising style or functionality.

As a female-led business that strives to meet women's needs, Dovetail keeps its social mission to advance female occupational and economic advancement at the forefront of its work. The company continues to break new ground with innovative fabric technologies, including durable and abrasion-tested stretch canvas and denim, gussets, and secured pocket components. All pants and overalls are available in sizes 000-24 with four inseam options, and the Dovetail website is expertly done with a variety of models, as well as details on the size of each model and the clothing item she is wearing, so as to help you best see how each item fits.

We at AGDAILY got our hands on several items, and here are our thoughts! We definitely were not disappointed!

Dovetail Workwear

$129 — Freshley Overall in Black Stretch Denim

My new go-to workwear! These are not repurposed, boxy men's overalls. They're intentionally designed to complement a woman's frame, without sacrificing the functionality of men's overalls. There are deep pockets galore. Accessible — and functional — pockets! There's even one on the breast of the overalls. My large cellphone (Samsung Note 8) fits securely in nearly every one of the pockets. There's plenty of room to accommodate its size, and the stretch in the denim keeps it from flopping around. There's a zippered pocket on the rear leg that's great for holding valuables such as keys, your ID, and credit cards. Normally I carry a folding knife, but if you need a place to keep sharp tools, there's also an open-ended pocket at the thigh.

I appreciate the slightly stretchy fabric — the overalls move with me, no matter what position I'm in. While stacking hay, I'm not constricted. While trimming my goats' hooves, I can kneel to the ground easily — and yet the reinforced knee panels mean the fabric stays strong despite the abuse of farm or construction work.

Some super cool features: There's a small round hole in the front bib pocket. Next spring, I'm going to try running twine through it for trellising my tomato plants. I've already used it for earbuds — just stash my phone in the front bib pocket and sliding an earbud cord through — voila! hands-free music and a secure phone. Not to be outdone — there's also a secret zipper in that pocket on the side.

$69 — Givens Work Shirt in Paprika

This work shirt is easy to throw on when I need something to keep me warm on chilly spring or fall mornings, something I can strip off as the day heats up. On my farm, it's common for temperatures to fluctuate between lows in the 40s and highs in the 80s on the same day. Layers are key! I wear this with the Get Dirty Graphic V-Neck Tee and the Freshley Denim Overalls for a great, coordinated, no-fuss outfit. I like the overall look of the shirt as well. It's obvious even at a glance that it's made of quality material. I'm looking forward to the addition of more colors.

$32 — Get Dirty Graphic V-Neck Tee

This is a great, basic T-shirt. It's comfortable, soft, and fits well. I love the "get dirty" text. I only wish that Dovetail had more graphic t-shirt options — more colors and more kick-butt phrases, please!

dovetail bandanas

$22 — Baseline Bandana

Want a multipurpose accessory? Check out this bandana! Serving as a measurement tool, a headband, dust protector, sweat rag, and more, this bandana is sure to come in handy.

dovetail maven slim

$99 — Maven Slim in Power Stretch Denim

Ask any woman what she wants in work jeans, and you will hear a recurring theme of pockets. It doesn't seem like a major request, but more often than not, women's jeans come with shallow pockets, or none at all. When I said it has pockets, I meant it. Ten pockets. Ten! By some miracle these jeans have 10 pockets without having a cargo pants look to them.

Also when shopping for women's work jeans, there is typically only one length option. I am tired of looking like I am waiting on the flood to come — and I am not even that tall! Just like I am sure shorter women are tired of getting the bottom inch of their jeans dirty because there's too much material. With the Maven, you pick your size and your inseam for the perfect fit. Finally no more guessing whether you are short, regular, or long.

Another bonus, these jeans are made with stretch in mind. If my body could do the splits, I believe these jeans would allow it. The double knee patch allows for these jeans to work just as hard as you do.

BUY THESE PANTS HERE!

$25 — Multi-Purpose Work Glove

A very nice, lightweight, all-around work glove. They seem strong so far, and they fit well. I can move my fingers easily and can maintain a nice grip while wearing them. I can even use my cell phone without having to pull them off (index fingers only, but hey, something is better than nothing!). Keep in mind these are not thick winter gloves and are not designed to keep your hands especially warm. If you're working outdoors, these are best for use in late spring, summer, and early fall, and they have a toughness that'll last.

BUY THESE GLOVES HERE!

dovetail tee

$32 — Dovetail Logo Tee

I am all about that branding life, so I was happy to add the Dovetail Logo Tee to my wardrobe. Let me tell you, this is the softest T-shirt ever. Great material, flattering, and a comfortable tee that will make you forget you are even wearing a work shirt.

BUY THIS TEE HERE!

dovetail chore coat

$199 — Eli Chore Coat

I've been on the hunt for a winter work coat for years. Nothing has ever been just right. The Eli Chore Coat is so close to exactly what I've been looking for that I'm ending my hunt and will layering under it in extreme cold.

There are only two criticisms I have of this coat. One is that (and keep in mind that I'm an extremely cold-natured person!) it's not quite warm enough. I suppose you could argue that I'm not working hard enough to keep my body temperature up! But for the price, I would have liked to have more insulation against extreme cold. I'll just layer a T-shirt with the Givens Work Shirt and a sweater, then toss this coat on, and I should be all set.

The other criticism I have is that the thumbholes are too tight. Not a big deal — but it does mean I can't use that feature, which I would have appreciated. The cuffs are nice and long, though, so that helps keep my hands somewhat warm.

Now on to the loves — and there are many!

It's windproof and waterproof. Those are must-haves. The back covers my rear and can even cinch along the bottom hem! The hood cinches in multiple ways, which keeps the hood up and contoured exactly to my head. These features help a lot to keep cold air from seeping inside the coat. The hood's ability to cinch is especially helpful for letting me see all around. My previous coat didn't have that feature, and the hood was huge, so it flopped down in front of my eyes.

Now, when I'm working hard outside, I do eventually warm up, and for those occasions, the underarm vents are a godsend. That way I'm not sweating and freezing at the same time.

Pockets. As you've read in the previous reviews of items above, Dovetail is smart and generous with pockets. This coat is no exception. My favorite pocket is a zippered one at the breast, by the side of the main zipper up the front. It's the perfect spot to stash my large cellphone. Overall there are two interior pockets and three exterior ones.

One last thing to note: The fabric of this coat magically stays clean, despite me carrying muddy buckets in from feeding my horses in their pastures twice a day. I'd love to know what witchcraft is used there. Maybe the same spell that kept the coat from ripping when I got hung on a broken piece of wire fence?

Cumming location of women's clothing chain starts the process of closing - Forsyth County News Online

Posted: 05 Nov 2019 01:14 PM PST

The Dressbarn clothing store in Cumming has started the liquidation process as part of the longtime women's clothing company's decision to end its retail operations.

Liquidation started on Friday, Nov. 1. The store, located at 533 Lakeland Plaza, will close by the end of December.

The company announced in May that it will close its approximately 650 retail locations due to grim financial conditions.

"This decision was difficult, but necessary, as the Dressbarn chain has not been operating at an acceptable level of profitability is today's retail environment," Dressbarn Chief Financial Officer Steven Taylor said in a statement released by the company.

Dressbarn said store associates would be notified about specific store closures and provided with transition support.

Dressbarn began as a single store in Connecticut in 1962 to offer "fashion at a value" for women who were entering the workforce. The company grew to operate approximately 650 stores across the country with approximately 6,800 employees.
