Not too many people can say they’re a published author before reaching high school, but 13-year-old Angela Content can!
This bright Brooklyn eighth-grader recently finished her
second novel. She has a sci-fi fantasy called “Awake and Alive” and a romance novel titled “Shattered.” According to
reports, both books — which she wrote at home by hand — are on sale on sites like Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
“I was just excited,” Angela said of making her dream come true. “I was like, ‘I’m so glad it’s over with.’ It was really, really hard.”
Angela’s mother said she knew her daughter was talented, but had no idea she’d reached the milestone so soon. “At first she said, ‘Mommy, I’m going to write a book. I’m writing my own book,’ I said, ‘OK.’ She said, I’m going to publish it. I said, ‘OK,’” Marie Content told
CBS News. “And then finally one day she said: ‘Mommy, my book is going to publish. I already transmitted everything — it’s going to take 24 hours, they’re going to review it…And then the next day, I heard it’s on Amazon. I’m like, ‘Oh my God!’”
Marie said she helped her daughter fall in love with books and writing by limiting TV watching and Internet surfing in the house. “I wish all the parents can do the same — keep the electronic stuff away from the kids and talk to them more; hear what they have to say,” she shared.
Angela, who is currently working on two more books, said she encourages other kids to “continue to follow your dreams,” too.
“You’re going to feel great once you actually accomplish what you set your mind to,” she said.
Salute!
